Product films for software teams

One workflow. One 30-second product film.

For a small B2B software team with a stable product and one story for a launch page or homepage. It can also serve as a short opener in a sales follow-up, leading to a fuller demo.

US$3,500total, including the US$1,750 story stage. Animation is a further choice after you approve the board.

One story. Three formats.

Landscape, square and vertical, recomposed for each frame.

This is SignalBoard, a fictional product concept, with all three versions running on one clock. The layouts change so the action and the text stay readable.

Square1080 × 1080
Vertical1080 × 1920

Two stages, one price

A plan you can use. A film you can choose to make.

Your film starts with the story: who is watching, how the product answers their question, and what they should do next.

Story stage

US$1,750standalone

The first half of making the film: decide what it says and how it should look. You can stop here and use your script, board and styleframes with another producer.

  • A brief covering the user problem, the workflow and what the product can truthfully promise.
  • One script or on-screen narrative for a 30-second film.
  • One four-to-six-panel storyboard.
  • Two representative styleframes showing the visual direction.
  • One consolidated board refinement.

This stage covers one concept and one workflow. The custom brief, script, board and styleframes you pay for are yours, including to use with another producer. Default handover is a PDF brief and board, editable Markdown brief and script, and PNG panels and styleframes. Your order identifies these files and any separately licensed assets.

Complete package

US$3,500total, story stage credited in full

If you continue, the full US$1,750 counts toward the complete package.

  • One 30-second landscape master at 1920 × 1080.
  • Square at 1080 × 1080 and vertical at 1080 × 1920, reflowed for each frame.
  • All three exports at 60 frames per second, using the same approved story.
  • Licensed music and sound effects for the agreed channels and usage.
  • Two consolidated animation revision rounds.
  • Checks of the encoded files, readable layouts and agreed formats before handover.

The package uses on-screen storytelling with music and sound effects. Narration, longer films, extra hooks, languages or workflows, extensive new 3D or illustration, and editable production source files are separately scoped. Those source files are separate from the included story-stage documents.

What a board looks like

Agree the picture before anything moves.

Paylark's board, from a fictional product concept: eight frames that fixed the shots, the type and the look. Then the film was built to match.

Board frame: Finished the work? beside the phone's chrome edge
01Hook: Finished the work?
Board frame: three overdue invoices beside Still waiting to get paid?
02Problem: three invoices still overdue.
Board frame: interface layers lift off the phone beside Get paid without the chase.
04Fix: Get paid without the chase.

How payment works

Pay as each stage is earned.

These service fees are quoted in US dollars. Your written quote confirms applicable tax treatment and the final amount payable before payment.

  1. US$1,750Before the story stage starts at the agreed slot.
  2. US$875After written board approval, if you choose to continue, before animation begins.
  3. US$875After acceptance of the agreed review proof and included revisions, before clean final exports.
  4. US$3,500Complete package total.

The review proof lets you inspect the picture, sound and all three formats. Silence does not count as acceptance.

A good fit when

One audience. One workflow. One place to use it.

You have one audience, one useful product workflow and a current place to use the film. You can provide approved UI and brand materials, confirm product claims and choose one person to consolidate feedback.

If you need a full onboarding lesson, several audience-specific concepts or native After Effects project files, say so before booking. Those requirements need a different scope or producer.

Questions before you commit

Good questions. Clear answers.

When can I have it?

For planning, I allow up to 13 production business days for the complete package, plus your review time. This is a planning allowance, not a measured typical turnaround. Your order gives actual storyboard, animation and final dates before payment, with feedback dates and dependencies. Business days are Monday to Friday, excluding any closures listed in the order. Work starts when the inputs, payment and confirmed slot are in place. I accept a deadline only when the scope and schedule fit.

Why does the story stage cost half the package?

It is where I learn the product, choose the explanation and make the script, board and visual direction. Those decisions define what the animation will show. You receive work you can use on its own, and the full payment counts toward your film if you continue. The stage is a paid production step, not a consultation fee.

What do I need to provide?

A product walkthrough or suitable access, current UI and brand assets, the intended audience and placement, approved claims, and one feedback owner. We agree on confidentiality, permitted AI use and source requirements before accepting the work. Please do not send passwords in an enquiry.

Do you use AI?

Yes. The workflow can use AI agents for research, drafting, asset creation and code-based animation, alongside rendering and editing tools. I direct the work, review it and remain responsible for the result.

Before work, I identify the intended services, what client materials they would process and the permissions required. Only materials approved for that workflow are used. If your restrictions cannot be met, I will say so before booking. I do not promise that third-party tools have no retention or training use without checking their actual terms and configuration.

How do revisions work?

One consolidated board refinement is included in the story stage. After approval, the complete package includes two consolidated animation revision rounds. A new workflow, replacement approved narrative or changed UI can change scope, price and dates; we agree on that before extra work. Fixing my defects does not use your revision allowance.

Who owns the work? What about source files?

The custom work you pay for is yours as set out in the order, including the story materials if you stop after Stage 1. Reusable production code and licensed assets are listed separately. Editable production source files are separately scoped; native After Effects files are not included. Music and asset licenses must cover your agreed channels and paid usage. Portfolio use requires your explicit permission.

What happens if I stop?

You can finish at the standalone story stage. Its US$1,750 divides into US$875 for discovery/script and US$875 for the board/styleframes with refinement. Completed agreed milestones are earned; payment for unearned or unstarted work is refunded. A partial milestone is settled only for documented, agreed usable work, up to that milestone's price. There is no automatic cancellation penalty. You receive the custom materials you have paid for. These allocations are written into your order.

Can it work without sound?

The story is designed to read without a voice when your viewer watches without sound. Music and effects support it. You receive the approved on-screen narrative as text to use alongside the film; the page's text alternative should describe any important visual information as well. Narration, captions for commissioned speech, localization and other access requirements are agreed in the brief so the scope fits the audience and placement.

Will it get more demos or sales?

The film is designed to explain a specific product story. Sales and demo bookings also depend on your product, audience, placement and offer. No conversion, sales or funding result is guaranteed.
